Jamie Dornan admits his daughters making him wear a dress and wig ‘saved him’ during lockdown

He delighted fans back in May when he posed in a dress and heels during playtime with his kids.

And Jamie Dornan said his daughters dressing him up had ‘saved him’ amid the UK lockdown during a hilarious appearance on this Thursday’s The Graham Norton Show.

The Fall star, 38, who shares Dulcie, seven, Elva, four and Alberta, one, with wife Amelia Warner, said: ‘If you have kids it can make it a lot harder in many respects but also save you in many ways.

‘They take your mind off the daily trauma while living through a pandemic. They would dress me up and I am all for that – particularly, putting on a dress!’

The actor wowed fans in May when he squeezed into a red patterned midi dress, which he wore over the top of his jeans and coupled with glitzy platform heels.

The Fifty Shades star finished the outfit with a unkempt black wig styled into two low ponytails.

Jamie looked bemused as he posed in his daughters’ playroom and gazed toward the camera.

The star uploaded that photo alongside a caption that read: Dressing up with my daughters took a turn. Meet Jenny (with the blue hair). She’s sweet.’

Jamie appeared on the show alongside Wild Mountain Thyme co-star Emily Blunt and singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor.

They play neighbours that become lovers before getting caught up in a land dispute over a farm.

Other cast members include Christopher Walken and Jon Hamm, and the movie was released in cinemas and digitally on demand on December 11.

Jamie said, ‘John Patrick Shanley (the writer) has a kookiness to his work. His are not normal linear movies, they are all a bit heightened and a bit odd, but the words are beautiful.’

He said: 'They take your mind off the daily trauma while living through a pandemic. They would dress me up and I am all for that ¿ particularly, putting on a dress!'

Talking about the criticism the film’s trailer received because of the challenging Irish accents, Jamie said: ‘I thought the reaction was funny. I’m from Ireland and our currency is taking the p**s, so it’s rare to put something out there and not have the piss taken. I’m all for it!’

The devoted dad recently brought some festive cheer to Instagram on Christmas Eve as he shared a hilarious video of him belting out Bing Crosby’s hit White Christmas.

But his kids were very unimpressed by his festive singing as they screamed for him to ‘shush’.

In the amusing clip, the Northern Irish actor showed off his dulcet tones as he sang the opening lines to the Christmas classic.

His daughters had clearly grown tired of his vocal talents as they repeatedly shouted ‘shush daddy shush’ to try and silence his jolly singing.

Jamie announced that he had welcomed his third child Alberta on Mother’s Day last year, as his wife Amelia shared a sweet Instagram snap of three pairs of baby shoes.

To avoid any doubt that she had welcomed another child in secret, Amelia, 38, then added that she was proud to be a mother of ‘three glorious girls’.

The notoriously private couple confirmed their engagement after two years of romance in November 2012, and married in an intimate Somerset ceremony in 2013.

Their daughter Dulcie was born at the end of that year, before the pair confirmed they were expecting again in October 2015.

It was not until March 2016 when Amelia was pictured walking with a stroller in Notting Hill that the arrival of second child Elva was confirmed.

Earlier this month, Jamie revealed that he had quit drinking for part of 2020, as he began ‘doing it all the time’ during lockdown.

He interviewed his friend, Bono’s daughter Eve Hewson in the Winter 2020 issue of Wonderland Magazine, during which he shed some light on his own life.

Revealing that his wife was ‘off the booze’, he explained that he had decided to quit ‘for the craic’ and to show support.

He said: ‘I have decided not to drink for the rest of the year. I’m on day 5 – I know, I look so good – but I am trying not to just for the craic. After his confession, Eve then queried: ‘What’s the point of not drinking?’

Jamie went on: ‘That’s something I am asking myself! Because my wife is not really drinking, Millie’s been off the booze for a while actually…

‘So it’s kind of to support that a wee bit. It’s just you get into such a thing of doing it all the time particularly in lockdown.’

Sophie’s appearance on The Graham Norton Show comes after her recent elimination from The Masked Singer.

The hitmaker looked sensational as she performed Crying at the Discotheque, a cover of the song by Alcazar, before she joined Graham on the couch.

Sophie caught the eye in a bright red mini dress with a sequined embellishment which she wore with a pair of heels.

During her interview, Sophie told how her husband Richard Jones helped to inspire her new album Songs from the Kitchen Disco.

She said: ‘During the lockdown we felt completely discombobulated stuck at home with our five kids, the stress and tension of our family life, and the heaviness of the news. We felt totally useless.

‘So, Richard suggested we do a gig on a Friday as a family to cope. If felt insane doing it live and actually broadcasting it but something about it appealed to me.

‘We started it at the beginning of lockdown and I really thought people were going to laugh at me, but we felt really good afterwards and our brains were tricked into thinking we had just done a gig. We got such a warm response.’

The Graham Norton Show airs on BBC One on December 31 at 10.25pm.
